Eye | Art director 1991-97

This quarterly was launched in 1991 by architectural publisher Wordsearch. Originally published in three languages, English, French and German – an experiment which was gradually abandoned as it proved far more popular in the UK and US than in Europe – the title passed into the hands of Emap in 1994. Thereafter the stability of a larger publisher allowed the title to fully estabish itself. The magazine established a benchmark in intelligent design criticism, as opposed to pure journalism, under editor Rick Poynor.
