The Theatre of the Face | 2007

Respected US historian and critic Max Kozloff's brilliant text was the deciding factor in taking on this commission for publishers Phaidon. Unfortunately the estates of Avedon, Arbus and Penn would not agree to contribute images, but other than that it's a fascinating read covering the history of portrait photography.

Max Kozloff's praise for the design:
"As a physical object, it has gravitas yet sparkle, heft and surprise."
